Fishing at Jurassic

There are currently 17 species of fish stocked in Jurassic’s scenic lake including Giant Siamese Carp, Indian Carp, Arapaima, Mekong Giant Catfish, Amazon Redtail Catfish, Thai Redtail Catfish, Chao Praya Catfish, Niger Ripsaw Catfish, Giant Snakehead, Tambaqui, Giant Gourami, Pacu, Alligator Gar and more.

The lake is home to huge Siamese Carp, some are in excess of 150lbs, carp over 50lbs are regularly caught making Jurassic the best choice for Carp fishing in Thailand. The exhilarating Carp fishing coupled with the chance to catch exotic fish species from both Thailand and the Amazon region provide a unique fishing experience which is sure to excite anglers young or old from around the globe.

Tackle and Bait

Typically you will fish with 2 Rods, one will target the lakes predators and the other will target Carp and Catfish. Fishing methods are similar to traditional Carp fishing, using a twin rod pod and alarm setup. Locally sourced dead baits are used for the predators (Arapaima) and halibut pellets for the carp and catfish.

The resorts carp rods are custom built 10 foot 3.5lb test curve ‘Jurassic’ Carp rods with Shimano 6000OC baitrunners, loaded with 65lb braid. Rigs comprise of a 3oz semi fixed lead with rig tubing down to a micro barbed hook and hair.

Predator Rods are custom made 3.5lb test curve rods, Shimano 6000OC baitrunners, and 65lb braid. Predator rigs are set-up to avoid deep hooking Arapaima and comprise of a 4oz semi-fixed lead, a short 10 inch 80lb mono hooklength down to a barbless hook.

Sufficient halibut pellets and dead bait will be supplied to last a full day of fishing for both hook baits and swim baiting. Typically 10kg of both baits will last an angler a full day.

How many fish will I catch?

Jurassic’s lake is well stocked and well managed which gives visiting anglers a very good starting point, the rest is down to skill from the individual angler, and perhaps a little bit of luck! For best results, 2 – 3 days are recommended, during that time you will most likely get a couple of prized specimens and many other decent sized fish made up of mostly Carp and Catfish.

A seasoned angler will undoubtedly reap the rewards of their own personal experience, and on a good day could expect to hook up to 10 fish or more. Less experienced anglers can also have productive days, and if needed, the gillies (fishing guides) can brief anglers at the beginning of the day on fishing and baiting techniques. Ultimately, the team at Jurassic want you to catch fish, so they will go out of their way to ensure each visitor has the best possible fishing experience.

The Gillies (fishing guides) at Jurassic are there to assist anglers during their time around the lake. They can do as little or as much as you like. Typically gillies will serve 2-3 anglers in nearby swims and will be called upon when you hook into a fish. They will help you net the fish and even take photos of you holding your prized catch. If you need more assistance, gillies can also help with untangling line/making new rigs, baiting swims and casting.

Jurassic’s Lake

The purpose built lake is an idyllic location. It’s set amongst colourful rice paddies with a dramatic backdrop of steep craggy limestone mountains. The lake has been specially designed, excavated and stocked for the specific purpose of sport fishing.

There are a total of 17 pegs/swims surrounding the lake which all offer space, comfort and convenience whilst fishing. The amount of anglers is limited to 10 per day to allow you some freedom to move around the lake if required. Anglers can relax in the shade of their convenient placed sala’s and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the Thai countryside whilst waiting for their reels to start screaming.

In between swims there are sufficient growths of water-based plants to provide extra cover from the sun and privacy even when the lake is fully occupied.

At Jurassic anglers can expect unrivaled levels of service and comfort which include food and drinks being delivered directly to their swim, and the convenience of onsite toilets and showers. If the midday sun gets to much, you could always take a quick dip in the resorts swimming pool, returning to your swim refreshed and ready to hook into your record catch.

Jurassic’s Resort

Jurassic Mountain is not only a fishing destination, it is a fully functioning resort set in lush tropical gardens, with a dramatic backdrop of steep limestone mountains. The luxury resort offers 4-star accommodation, a swimming pool with terrace, and restaurant serving Thai and European cuisine. Jurassic Mountain is also perfect for guest’s who are not fishing the lake, maybe you are travelling with your fishing addict partner? Whilst they are enjoying themselves fishing, you could be relaxing around the pool, topping up your tan, or enjoying the magnificent views whilst sipping a drink from the lounge and bar, everyone’s a winner!

The luxury villa’s are spacious with quality decor throughout, with a choice of twin or double rooms for 2 guests or a family suite which sleeps 4. All villa’s feature air conditioning, flat screen tv with DVD player and cable channels, tea and coffee making facilities, hot showers, and large private balcony’s with table’s and seating.

Jurassic Mountain Resort and Fishing Park is in Cha-am district which is only a 2 hour drive south from Bangkok and a 30 minute drive from the popular beach resort town, Hua Hin.

How Many Days Should I Fish?

To get the most out of your fishing experience at Jurassic, at least 2-3 days are recommended. This will give you a great chance of hooking into one of the lakes larger fish species such as the much sought after Arapaima, or a good sized Siamese Carp. Day trips can also be very productive as you will most likely catch a number of decent sized Catfish and Carp, and if your luck is in you could still land one of the lakes monster fish!

Non-Fishing Guests

Non fishing guests who are accompanying anglers are welcome at Jurassic at no extra charge. If you are staying at the resort you have access to all of the facilities such as the swimming pool and clubhouse with its restaurant, lounge and bar. You are also welcome to join your friend/partner around the lake as long as you follow the lakes relaxed etiquette guidelines. Outside of the resort, Cha-am is a 10 minute taxi ride where you could relax on the beach or have lunch in one of the many cafe’s along the beachfront. Hua Hin, a 30 minute taxi ride, is a developed beach resort with plenty to see and do, you could quite easily spend the whole day there whilst your partner is fishing. If you have children, there is a great waterpark (Santorini Water Fantasy) ‬very close to Jurassic, along with the beaches at Cha-am and Hua Hin.
