Join our jungle adventure in Thailand’s most remote district, Umphang. You wll get to experience a place in Thailand that you never knew existed, the jungles around the stunning Mae Klong river and Thi Lor Su waterfall are pristine and unaffected by tourism.

Float down the Mae Klong river taking in the stunning jungle, cliffs and waterfalls. Trek through the deep jungle of Umphang wildlife sanctuary until you reach Thailand’s most impressive waterfall, the mighty Thi Lor Su. Swim, take in the awesome sights and sounds then camp under the stars. Trek to an authentic Karen village and stay with a working farming family. Wake up in the morning, take in village life, then continue jungle trekking back to Umphang town.

-Trekking for 3 hours (wet season) or 30 minute 4wd car journey (dry season) to Thi Lor Su Waterfall
-Swim and bathe at the magnificent Thi Lor Su, the largest waterfall in Thailand
-Have dinner and sleep in tents at Thi Lor Su campground

-Have breakfast and visit Thi Lor Su waterfall. As well as swimming, you also have the option to trek to the top of the falls to get a magnificent view
-3 hour jungle trek to Koh Tha Karen Village
-Explore the village or take a short trek to Koh Tha waterfall
-Spend the night at the village, sleeping in a traditional wooden house with a local Karen family

-4 hour jungle trek back to the banks of the Mae Klong River near Umphang town

1 day is required before the start of the tour to travel to Mae Sot and then on to Umphang, there are a few different options for this. We will advise you on the best option depending on where you are travelling from.
We include a night in a basic guest house in Umphang, the day before the start of the tour, dinner is also included.

Where is Umphang?
Umphang district is located along the Myanmar border in Tak province in the north west of Thailand. Umphang is very remote and can only be reached by travelling to the Thai border town of Mae Sot first. Tak is a large unexplored province sandwiched between Kanchanaburi, Kamphaeng Phet, Mae Hong Son, and Chiang Mai provinces.
Getting to Mae Sot
Daily buses leave Bangkok’s Mo Chit station (northern bus terminal), buses depart from 8am. Bus journeys take 7-8 hours. Night buses leave daily from 9:30pm and arrive in Mae Sot the following morning. Night buses are the best way to save time and money when travelling from Bangkok to Mae Sot. Buses from Chiang Mai leave from Arcade Bus Station from 8am, bus journeys from Chiang Mai take 6-7 hours. VIP buses are the preferred choice, they cost around 600 baht and include on board toilets, and a light meal and drink, buses stop along the way at service stations so you can buy extra snacks and stretch your legs.

Getting to Umphang
In order to get to Umphang you will need to travel to Mae Sot first, then take the daily songthaew taxi service to Umphang which departs from Mae Sot bus station. The service runs from 6am-1pm, and costs 130 baht per person, journey time is 3-4 hours. The songthaew journey takes place along a twisty mountain road that has over 1200 curves. You will be travelling with the locals as you wind your way through the dramatic countryside in an open backed songthaew, the journey is a real experience and an adventure in itself.

-Large bags and other luggage can be left at our tour office in Umphang and be collected at the end of the tour.
-Camera batteries and phones can be charged at Thi Lor Su waterfall campground and at the Karen Village homestay accommodation.
-Wet shoes are recommended for walking around Thi Lor Su waterfall, especially if you wish to trek to the top of the falls.
-There is a small shop at Thi Lor Su waterfall for buying snacks, beer, and soft drinks. Drinks and snacks can also be bought at Koh Tha Karen Village.
-Toilet and shower facilities are next to Thi Lor Su waterfall campground.
-During the dry season it is safe to swim all around Thi Lor Su Waterfall. During the wet season our guides will show you a safe place where you can bathe.
